How do I avoid getting lost on U.S. highways?

With the kids out of school and the summer travel season in full swing many people are traveling to different destinations by car or renting a car.  One thing many people have in common is getting lost on the U.S. highway systems, but are the roads as complicated as you think they are?

Things you may want to know…

When you see a one or two digit even numbered highway this represents a major East-West route.

When you see a one or two digit odd numbered highway this represents a major North-South route.

If you see a three digit figure that starts with an even number this represents a loop around the city.

If you see a three digit figure that starts with an odd number this represents a road that is heading to or from city center/downtown.

Major interstate cross country highways that run North/South end with the number 5

Major interstate cross country highways that run East/West end with 0.

Hopefully, if you have forgotten about this numbering system or have never heard of it, you have found this information to be helpful in your future travels.
